Integrated Dental Record Management System

IDRMS

Product Overview

Integrated Dental Record Management System (iDRMS) is a comprehensive patient information management system. iDRMS is based on the concept of the application and processing of electronic dental information for the purpose of clinical, management, administration and planning to support an integrated dental services set-up.

iDRMS supports both single dental center practice and multiple dental centers managed as an enterprise. The implementation of iDRMS will take over the manual process of dental record management in Dental Center, making the operation more effective and efficient.

Among the objectives of iDRMS are as the following:

  • Central storage of electronic dental record.
  • Information sharing
  • Integration of clinical diagnostic system and enhancement tools to dental information system
  • Effective and efficient appointment system
  • Establishing automatic dental treatment reporting system
  • Implementing special modules for specilists and laboratory.
  • Statistical analysis and epidemiology for management and planning.
  • Platform for Research and development.

Key Architectural Features

Architecture defined the structure and direction of a solution. Architecture is driven by its goals. iDRMS architectural goals are as the following:

Integrated Solution

Information sharing is one objective of iDRMS. The source of information come from various distributed internal and external components. Information exchange needs to be synchronized between the components. As such, iDRMS is designed and built on a framework that can be extended to handle integration to various healthcare solution components. This is achieved through Health Connection Engine (HCE), a platform for integration which is compliance with HL7.

iDRMS also leverages on Microsoft’s connected systems strategy which centers on the .NET Framework development technologies as the common development framework spanning clients and servers, with a focus on Web services and industry standards such as SOAP and Extensible Markup Language (XML) for interoperability with components and services provided by other vendors.

Manageability and Maintainability

The architecture of iDRMS which supports single or multiple enterprise based practice allows organization to implement a solution that maps to how the practice is organized. Some practices are managed centrally while others are managed as single practices. The flexibility in deployment structure enhances iDRMS manageability as a solution.

Healthcare program (dental program in this case) is a dynamic program which requires a solution to be changed to incorporate new changes. Therefore high maintainability is another architectural goal of iDRMS.

iDRMS is developed on .NET Framework. It leverage on the .NET platform manageability and maintainability.

Security

iDRMS manages personal medical and health information. Access to this information by various groups of users is governed by policies. Accessibility, integrity and confidentiality and privacy of the information is ensured at all time. Proper authentication and authorization for access has to be implemented for each segment of information identified. iDRMS provides more opportunities for easier access to dental records.

iDRMS solution includes several layers of security. Architecturally, it is compliance to HL7 which governed the standard for health information exchange. At the platform level, iDRMS leverage on .NET platform security while at application level, role based access to information is implemented on top of the standard login mechanism.

Performance

iDRMS application is supporting critical administrative workflows in an online transaction based environment. It is therefore critical for the response time and availability of the systems to adhere to the standard set.

Scalability

iDRMS application is deployed in different sizes of dental centers. Number of Users and functionality required differs between the health care facilities. iDRMS is architected to supports various sizes of  single or enterprise dental practice centers.

Flexibility for growth

iDRMS is designed for growth. It is expected any implementation will grow in term of services to be provided and sophistication of the service in the future. iDRMS architecture is modular should be flexible in incorporating the enhancement. The .NET platform is known for its flexibility.

Overall Solution Architecture

IDRMS System Architecture

The diagram above depicts the application solution components of iDRMS. It comprises of three main functional components i.e. Dental Practice Management System (DPMS), Enterprise Dental Portal and Dental Statistical/Business Intelligence Module.

DPMS primary function is to manage (capture, store and distribute) patients’ dental records while the Dental Enterprise Portal act as the single entry point to the various application components. In addition the Enterprise Dental Portal has its own application components such dental education, content management and office workflow automation. The Dental Statistical/Business Intelligence Module provides business intelligence capability for data analysis used for planning and R&D.

A common integration platform integrates the components as well as integration to any external systems. The DPMS and Dental Enterprise Portal can be accessed by static, remote and mobile Users.
